Director of GAMBICA B2B Compliance, Chief Executive of Gambica, CEng, FIET, FInstMC

Geoff Young is Chief Executive of GAMBICA. He joined GAMBICA in 1982, initially as Commercial Director following a number of senior appointments within the BEAMA Federation, which included Director of the BEAMA Transmission and Distribution Association. His industrial experience was gained with EMI Electronics, principally in the area of light sensing devices.

Geoff is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of both the Institution of Electrical Engineering and Technology and the Institute of Measurement and Control and is a Fellow of the RSA. He is also a liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers and has held a number of external appointments relevant to the instrumentation and control industry, including as a member of the Government's Measurement Advisory Committee and as a member of the Steering Board of the National Weights and Measures Laboratory.

Geoff also represents the GAMBICA industry sectors within ORGALIME, the European Federation of National Trade Associations, based in Brussels. From 1999 - 2002, he was appointed Chairman of ORGALIME's Electrical and Electronic Liaison Committee and a member of the Management Board. In 2004, he was appointed as leader of the UK delegation to the IEC Standardisation Management Board responsible for the management of international electrotechnical standards.

In November 2006 he was appointed President of the British Electrotechnical Committee, the UK member organisation of IEC and Cenelec, and became the UK member of the IEC Board and leader of the UK delegation to both IEC and Cenelec.

Within GAMBICA, Peter is responsible for several sector groups including the Integrated Management Systems Group, where many of the issues of the WEEE and RoHS draft Directives were initially discussed within the Association.

Peter liaises on environmental issues with Orgalime, the European Federation of Trade Associations, and ensured that WEEE categories, 8 - Medical Devices and 9 - Monitoring and Control Instruments, have been addressed in negotiations with the European Commission, Council and Parliament.

Peter has orchestrated the sector's debate with the DTI and DEFRA over the last 18 months and from member company responses has compiled and submitted the industry position papers in reply to the Government consultations on the WEEE and RoHS Directives.

Peter is the Director of the Association for Healthcare Technology Providers for Imaging, Radiotherapy and Care (AXrEM).

His background is in the aerospace industry with Hawker Siddeley Dynamics and he has also worked for many years in the commercial Testing division of British Standards Institution, covering global product certification.
